The firm was founded in late 1994 following the merger of two regional building societies. The eponymous partners were respectively General Manager/Secretary and Chief Solicitor of the Legal Department of one of the merging societies. The firm initially concentrated on re-mortgage business, and has continued to do so to this day. Over the years, the firm has expanded into other areas including on-line residential conveyancing.

The firm was the first in the north east region to hold both of the Investor in People and Lexcel accreditations; it has also been favoured with awards for enterprise over the years.

Since the advent of on-line conveyancing, the firm has been at the forefront of development of cheap web based conveyancing work, working initially with on-line introducers of conveyancing work.
